Gifts

http://www.cgdds.com/images/gift-box-blue_1.jpg

It is the time of the year where you are shopping to buy things for people in your life that make you smile, that at time make you angry and even make you feel nothing…

But giving a gift is more than just buying something to see someone smile… It can be (if you make it) a gesture of peace, of letting someone you care about know how much you know them (by getting them something they like and would actual wear). It can be whatever you want to make it. And I will have to remind you they too will make it whatever they want to make it also. So… since sometimes others may not see if for what you make the gift…i suggest you make a little note… Tell them why you are giving them a gift. A lot of people have lost the use of the card before the gift, and it was meant to inform them the reason why they are receiving their gift.

I hope when you give, you give whole heatedly. That you give something that’s good for the person, not something that would hurt or jeopardize them or their loves ones. AND have fun making or buying the awesome gift you give.

Gratitude, Hope and Actions

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5283/5282466289_0a9e3d0bdb.jpg

I woke up…
I was able to open my eyes, fell the warmth of my covers and I took a deep breath.

I’ve learned that my actions make a reaction. That what I do does come around. That when I’m in the most of darkest of places I’m able to have hope to get me through. I’ve learned…

But I’ve also become aware that my actions mean more than just doing… for others. And I’m grateful that I’m able to do whatever I can with out forgetting about myself, my family and friends. I’m grateful for that.

So the next time you feel like you do not have anything, keep it simple. You are able to think you have nothing, or feel something… you are breathing.  You are able to have hope if you want it, hope to get you to your next endevour. Allow grace to heal your heart, for I’ve learned we not just have one… we give one to everyone we are kind to, we help and give one to.  Sounds like puppies and rainbows, but where would we be with out the puppies and rainbows?

Keep being grateful, filled with the air you breath everyday. Have hope, have gratitude, act for your and other’s better. Make it your wonderful day.

More Than Just My Name

You come and go… at least that is what I know life to be.  Something I was brought into because my parents chose to.
Like with everything in life… everything has an end, and today… as I sat down, spoke to my friend about the life we have lived, and want to have… I said, “I want to make a difference in my lifetime, leave a brand… names engraved in something more than just a grave.” Knowing that I do make a difference in other lives on a daily basis. How does I DARE to say? Because I’m told… I see changes and I go with the flow.
So tonight’s blog… I write to encourage you to make something for yourself with out malice. With out talking about others, hurting other, but helping others. With out the small rumors you tell your friends, but acknowledged and encourage the ones around you. Its hard, don’t I know it! It like telling the hot coco not to have marshmallows. But I encourage you; to live your dreams, make them a reality. Not to hurt others while you climb your latter, or move your mountain. To believe in what you know to be true and allow other that influence you be of positive demeanor, influence and positive lifestyles.
I say this now because someone once told me…. “Give love and love will be given back to you…” In the words of a great man who made super bowl 27 one of the many best things I’ve ever participated in. “give love and love will be given to you…stay strong your hip will heal soon.” MJ 1993
 I’m in 2.32…

 http://tippnews.com/wp-content/uploads/veteransday.jpg

Thank you!  Today I’m thankful for all the Men and Woman who kept me, us, safe. For the people who have fought the people who want to harm us in our America. I’m a proud bi-cultural lady, Born and raised in America and every day I am here I reminded myself of all the great things I can do to help other because others are taking care of me.

I hope you take time to tell your loved ones and loved ones that severed how much they mean to you and protect you and how much you love them. They may not always be there…but they are over there protecting you.  <3

The #cause2012 conference in Santa Maria, CA on October 29, 2011. As you have read in my prior post this  conference was held at Allan Hancock College campus in Santa Maria. The #cause2012 an opportunity for social media and community organizing worlds to network, and learn from one another.  This conference was a lecture and workshop oriented (I conducted the keeping a healthy balance with Social Media, Social Justice and Personal Life).

Thoughts of the conference:

I was thinking through out the conference, social justice… and someone in the session said it “you are playing angry birds when there is a revolution going on.” And I began to think of all the small revolutions that everyone works through on a daily basis… the getting out of bed when its cold, or the poor kids that have no food, the children who stay at home with out anyone to care for them.. i can go on. I was inspired even more, granted I’m working on building a foundation for children who have chronic pain… but i was inspired to take it higher… to make the county, city, state, life and world wide know that there is hope for just about anything. Yes, I am an out of the box thinker, a dreamer and most of all a doer. By going to this conference I found an even more profound appreciation for civil servants, the social workers who are trying to find their balance, the community activist who is baring their feet, their souls to help the people who have ongoing struggles, the social media people who weary their eyes making it possible for you to read this…

Participation:

Participating in this event was amazing. As I mentioned the workshop was based on keeping a healthy balance with Social Media, Social Justice and Personal Life. As I was educating. I had so many ideas funnel through my mind on what other ways  can help people and family through the education of finding your own balance… Because although many people say there isn’t a balance, I will say there is such a thing as balance… the word exist doesn’t it?  However, It may not be the same thing for everyone… everyone find their balance in their own ways. Finding a healthy balance only means being well rounded…and I don’t mean your hips…

So towards the end of the conference I found that everyone took with them a different aspect of what they chose to view. Some people where excited about their new founded knowledge… I found that I was excited to see a big group of people learning Twitter, Facebook and social media in general to help each other and others they have yet to meet.  Overall, the conference in my point of view was a success.

And to the team that created this even! Big ups! Giovanni! Jose! Cristina! Hilda! Jessie!and Jes… Awesome Job!

I hope you come to the next one…

A Balance: Social Media, Social Networking, Education and Your Life

Many people call Social Media/Networking a distraction of the education (lessons) life wants you to learn…

People run the world with the ability to obtain access to everything, very fast. One click you are there. I remember my path with Social networking… for me it was Yahoo Chat. I was 15 (dating myself much?) I was chatting online in school with my girlfriends…we would then play volleyball and talk about the “weird” people we had met online. Yet, we were excited to go back and find out more about them. It was exciting.

At age 17 I was meeting friends all over the globe. I was now talking to them, Communicating because it was not enough to just chat with them all day, I wanted to hear their voice, know how they laughed… how they began.

In college… I was meeting with business people… networking. Making meetings and being aware of what life was bringing to me…even though I did not know it.

Now, I’m inspired. I’ve had opportunities to meet people I’d never in my dreams thought I would meet. I’m connected with not only old friends, but also new people that are making a difference in the world.

Recently, I was in Hawaii. Meeting up with a man filled with passion, and interest in helping Latinos, but not only Latinos, everyone. Which to me was awesome! And to tell you a bit of the Hawaiian-Latino Culture… they are not like here in the “main land.” They don’t care where you are from, most are educated and they seem to just be chill and open to help. No hesitation, you ask and you shall receive. It is a population like no other, At least to me they have been.

I’ve met people making things happen, make the world go round…it may not be the whole world, but the world of many others. This is what I appreciate about Social Networking.  I’ve met people that have taught me so much about life… so much about they’re pain, their past and possible futures. I’ve been street educated through social media (business wise); I’ve been educated by other’s lives.

Which brings me back to Life… As I sit on my super comfy chair, I’ve found that life is a treasure, and everyday I communicate to you, I find my insight about who I am, who I want to be and Who I am becoming I hope when you read this you find Insight on who you are, who you are becoming and who you want to be come. And are open to making life a better place for you… But please don’t forget that life with out living is not much of a life… The world is meant to be seen yes… but also touched and felt. So I leave you to make up your mind with this:

Adding all the wonderful “distractions” may make it beyond exciting… Or does it? Its your own point of view…tell me about it.

Frijoles at 30…years of age that is…

I am 29. About to be 30 in December and until today I had never made a pot of Frijoles! Can you believe this? I know right?! I’m a Latina in the Southern U-nited States of America and I’ve never made frijoles (beans).  So as I was relaxing in Hawaii… meeting other Latinos over yonder on the other side of the world, this came to my head!  (Me speaking to me>>) “Jes! Why have you not made a pot of Frijoles? What is your Problem? OMAGOSH… What will mom think?!”
So I started asking my girl friends, how they have done their beans. I asked their mothers of their recipe… I even asked my awesome cleaning lady! Everyone but my Mommy. Why? I was embarrassed! Me, embarrassed of asking MY mommy for a cooking recipe? I know right?… SO…
I went on with my relaxing retreat weekend, enjoying meeting people and still thinking: Frijoles and 30, Frijoles and 30, Frijoles and 30!… So on one of the nights over yonder nowhere near Guatemala… I woke up and started researching how to make Frijoles. And found sooooo many recipes. Mind you, my mother is a Chef cooking lady, all star weekend cook, mind you.  You get where I’m going with this…
So tonight, after a semi-stressful day at work I did it. Went to Ralphs bought a bag of black beans. I did everything I remember my mom use to do before putting the beans in the water… stuff. I use to help her cook. Washing the beans, taking the rocks out, looking for funky looking ones I could use for art projects… and then I placed them in the pot. Suddenly, I realized! THIS IS NOT the FIRST TIME I have made FRIJOLES. I use to make them with my mom when I was young. I felt so excited! I started dancing while cutting the cebolla (onion). I sent my mom a picture of the beans cooking and she called me back right away. She was amazed I was making frijoles from scratch! And All I could ask her was “mommy am I doing them right?”  She told me what to do thereafter and Long and BEHOLD! I made my first pot of Frijoles on my own! Well… with some help. LOL They don’t taste bad either. Super yum!
So the lesson of this… It’s just a pot of frijoles. However, It’s more than just a pot, its culture, history and all that comes with it, all that you make of it! For me, making this meant truly growing up, believe it or not. It meant that no matter what, I could always find someone else that would help me. Close friends, their parents and further more, my parents (thank you mommy).
I’m Turing 20… I mean thirty and I’m so excited of what is to come… More Frijoles ya! 😉

Amazing!

Decorating Tips From the Spa

Decorating Tips From the Spa

By Shelley Levitt for The Style Glossy

Even without the massage, body wrap or facial, spending a few hours in a spa is a great way to relax. That’s because the smells, sights and textures that surround you are themselves antidotes to stress. Having your favorite massage therapist on call 24/7 would be relaxing, we’ll admit. But these decorating tricks from some top spas are the next best way to make your day-to-day life at home more serene.

1. Bring the outside in. Natural elements soothe. At the spa at Colorado’s Vail Mountain Lodge and Spa, the art includes branches sprayed with silver and gold paint and affixed to the walls with dowels and wire. For an even easier do-it-yourself project, simply place branches in a vase. Taniya Nayak, host of HGTV’s “House Hunters on Vacation,” loves to include pieces made of natural wood, like a rustic bench or a carved wooden bowl, in the homes she designs. Or, consider hanging a group of wooden picture frames in different shapes and sizes on a wall. “Don’t put anything inside the frames — not even a piece of glass,” says Nayak. “The frames themselves are the art.”

2. Engage your sense of smell. Bring home the “aaahhhh” scent of a spa with reed diffusers. As essential oils seep up the wood stems, which are housed in a glass cylinder, the scent wafts throughout the room. You can find a wide collection at Pier 1 Imports. Search online for the Archipelago collection — which is available in that spa staple, eucalyptus and dozens of other scents from arugula to verbena — or for Red Flower’s organic diffusers in scents like jasmine and orange blossom.

3. Remember the five natural elements. Incorporate wood, fire, metal, earth and water. For fire, consider flameless candles and tea lights. “These protect your home from candle-related fires, but still give you the ambiance of the perfect spa escape,” says Mindy Terry, president of the consulting company Creative Spa Concepts. Terry’s favorite way to introduce metal is with Tibetan singing bowls. Made from an alloy containing copper, tin, zinc, iron and other metals, “they’re not only beautiful; they’re also an interesting conversation piece.” Plus, they appeal to your sense of sound. Simply tap the rim of the bowl with the mallet and the vibrations will produce crystal-clear tones. You can find both antique and modern versions of the bowls online.

4. Use transparent materials. Glass hurricane vases, for example, will help to create a sense of light and airiness. At the spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, orchids and lilies are submerged in tall vases — a clean, crisp and uncluttered way to introduce water and earth elements in your home. “These simple arrangements add a sense of movement to your space and keep your environment dynamic,” says Jennifer Kleen, the spa’s designer.

5. Keep colors harmonious — but not dull. When interior designer Warren Sheets chose the colors for the Renaissance-inspired spa at the luxurious Grand Del Mar resort in San Diego, he wanted them to be “simple and soothing.” But instead of a monotonous palette of white and beige, he mixed earthy creams with warm slate hues and ecru, and “to lend energy and life,” he used azure blue as an accent color. “Restricting color to various shades of the same family imbues a relaxed feeling, while also evoking a positive energy,” says Sheets. Nayak suggests choosing a paint color for your walls, such as teal blue — and then adding white to make it 50 percent lighter for your ceiling. “A spa vibe doesn’t have to be Zen and quiet,” she says. “It can be hip and modern and still serene.”

Atol de Elote (Warm Corn Milk)

Atol de Elote

As you know, I love the cold. I love it so much once I got home I went straight to my kitchen and Made some Atol (AH-Toll) de Elote (Eh-low-teh). Its something I grew up drinking along with Arroz con Leche. I remember when I use to go to San Lucas, Guatemala, right at the entrance there is a farmer’s market and there the Indigenous ladies made this drink.  San Lucas is known for their Coffee farms. (Now you know why I love coffee so much!). And the entrance welcomes you with HUGE pine trees. Nevertheless, today I was cold… and I made some Atol de Elote.

Here is MY recipe. I’ve revamped it, but it taste the same.

So here you go!

Ingredients
Two Tee-spoons (O_o) of Vanilla
One Can of Sweet Corn
Cinnamon
Nine Splenda packets (1/2 or 1 cup of sugar)
4 cups of Milk
(I use Skim because I just do, mom uses 2%, others use Whole Milk, All your choice. LOL).

(Yes I shop at Target….LOL)
What to do!
1. You have to open the can, but DO NOT drain it.
2. Add the can of corn into a Blender.
3. Add the Vanilla
4. Add the Milk and Blend to liquefy (as the Yo Gaba Gaba peeps say YEEEEAAAAH!)
5. Add a bit (like 3/4) of milk to warm up onto a Pot big and add (3-4 dashes of Cinnamon)
6. Once that warms add the Liquefyness in the pot.
7. Under lite fire, move it around. Let it simmer (light fire)
8. Once the milk foams up move it around some more and lower the fire EVEN more.
9. Shut the fire, then
10.  POUR and DRINK (but don’t burn your lips) 😉
you can always add sweetness to your liking. 🙂

Coach for Cure

The last time I bough a purse it had a lot of meaning to me because It was my little coach purse I take into all my sessions. The Little but VERY FABULOUS Pink purse.  First of, I carry it because it reminds me of what can be overcome by strong women all over the world. It reminds me of things I’ve gone through, but most of all its pink, which reminds me that no matter who or where you are at as long as you have yourself, your love for you and others, I will be OK.

This one I bought at the Sherman Oaks Westfields Fashion Square.  And Again, The attendant was awesome!

So When you buy this one, think of all the strong women you are buying it for!
