Empowerment and Style: LatinaStyle Business Series Re-Cap

Wonder why women are admired?

I asked myself this question as I volunteered at the Latina Style Business Conference at The Hyatt Century City Plaza this past Thursday.

I observed women of all sorts of  life’s paths: field, characters, attitudes, hopes, dreams, behaviors, thoughts and Styles. What I found out is that we are all different and all the same in our difference. What do I mean? We are women who want more from life, some, want more for self. Some, want more for others…and yes,  some wanting more for both Us and others. Any aspect isn’t bad.. it just is what it is.

Along with this simple observation. I also noticed two things, POWER and STYLE. Women getting together and making connections. You see, the power of a woman is more than her beauty. It is her emotions, thought and brain amongst many many other features. She is the entrepreneur, the singer, the artist, the mother, the fashionista, the SEO, The foodie, the CEO, the President, the chef, the cook, the homemaker, the political advocate… I can keep going! But I will not.

During the event:

We were greeted by our Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. He spoke about greatness, being humble, and not forgetting where we come from…

We leaned how Verizon allows you to rub your  business from the palm of your hand.   The Speaker was Awesome and Lively!
Personally I love Verizon! Did you know you can now take a pic of people’s business cards and they will be uploaded to your phone?

And Our Course of course! Stuffed Olive chicken. Carrots and Broccoli. Rice and A tomato. (It was a bit overdone). 😀

                  Host of Macy’s Runway… from

               Project Runway’s  Nick Verreos

I enjoyed the fashion and the Normal sized woman portrayed on the runway. Its a first that I’ve seen on a “normal” runway. Along with Radio Celebrities Yesi Ortiz (POWER 106) and Roxy (Latino 96.3)

Macy’s gave us Fashion for the on the Go, stay at home, traveling businesswomen. Also, gifting us with a gift certificate at dinner.

You see… When a group of women come together… Anything is possible. When ONE puts something to mind, anything is possible. This is what I gravitated from this conference along with the information taught, which was easy to understand. Moreover, what I was reminded was what I’ve love to continue learning …

That “Love [of what we do] is that condition in the human spirit so profound that it allows [us] to survive, and better than that, to thrive with passion, compassion, and style.” Maya Angelou

I hope you attend next years business conference.

Oh and did I mention I won a United States Postage in a raffle? It was fun! I highly enjoyed myself. Made awesome connections with women and some men that like to empower women.

Continue to do greatness in this world you human you.

Smile (If you want),

Jes Sofia Valle

P.S. Thank you Tanya and Roberto for making this happen!

Latinas with a Mission: com·rade·ry in Los Angeles Latina Bloggers

a spirit of friendly good-fellowship

Strive to have awesome friendships, relationships through awesome people that help and motivate you on the ongoing paths life gives you. #JSV

Sometimes you may think that you will not ever get this kinds of support. Well, I’m here to tell you that It’s all about what you allow in your life. How your move fwd with people and allow their good nature to affect your life. So next time you are presented with an opportunity to know someone, enjoy what they have to give, their good nature, and learn to distinguish who is wanting the best for you.

Every heard the word “comadre?”  For Latinas, This means positive fellowship. So I will let you into my new little big world… of Blogger Comrades. As you know by now,  I write because I can and I love it.  As an added plus I have met some great women. You will probably see me tweet crazy random things to these awesome women. I call them my online comrades. We meet in real life at events where we go to and then later blog about.

I started blogging and then tweeting with a vision to promote my new growing foundation. Turning Leaves foundation. Of which I mention every time I talk.  With this passion of helping, I found that I have met super awesome and stylish women, women with dreams, voice and power.  Men too.

I made new friendships and my ideas have not stopped overflowing. As you may know, I’m the girl that loves to help people grow, to give them hope and ideas. So when I had the opportunity to help out and plan the Los Angeles Latina Bloggers, I was excited. Help should be my middle name, but its Sofia and I love it too.

Here is a recap of The Los Angles Latina blogger Brunch:

photoWe (Monique and Yours truly)  sat at Starbucks not to long ago and wondered how this may come about.  Wrote up beginning documents and Monique worked hard…. super hard to obtain sponsorship. I became the support system because Something I’ve learned is when someone is on the Go, you don’t stop them, get in their way, you support them. I do have to say Going to the flower mart with Monique at 5:30am was rather interesting. More so making the flowers… I loved them. The kitchen cleaning up after I did not. haha.

photoDiscovering Mas the Brunch: I was excited. I was able to meet a lot of women who where from various paths of life. Mothers, sisters, friends, models, professional working women.  We were educated about creating our media kits by Jennifer Vides: “How to market and Brand yourself as a blogger” and Wally Sabrina: “Optimizing Your Social Media Presence w/ creative and compelling Content.”  The material provided was helpful,

photoWe had time to meet new Comrades, chat it up, as we women do and Get to know awesomeness in all. I wish I had more time to sit with every single one of them and get to know them. For now, I am still reading blogs and laughing, crying and getting to know them through what I call, My blog time.

Here are some pictures from the event: I hope you enjoy re-living camaraderie of Latina bloggers.

The question any girl loves to hear

So Yesterday my Boyfriend asked the question any girl wants to hear…

“Babe, what do you want for your birthday, make a list?” And My simple answer was:” to be fine, ok and you to be the same.” Then he said, “for reals babe, SOMETHING.”  OMGoodness I melted! I’ve been waiting like 100 years (29) to hear this question… and I melted. I hope you understand me on this one. I don’t ask for things…when it comes to me. I am use to getting everything on my own.  I even asked “whats my budget” and then he said “what kind of question is that?… just make a list babe” *melting all over again*

So of course I had no idea what to ask for… And then! I found this:

Gucci - Marrakech Medium Hobo

253

Gucci Marrakech Medium Hobo Bag ( yes I’m a girl and love gucci with out the GGGG all over the bag)
Simple, great for a girl on the “go” and So soft… I loved it.

And along with it all I added this to my list….LOL You will laugh.

2.   Jane Taylor ‘Twinkle’ Cushion Stone & Pavé Diamond and Topaz  (Birthstone ring) Size 8.

Nikon D3000 Black Digital SLR Camera w/ 18-55mm (Non VR) Lens, includes Nikon Camera Bag, 2GB Memory Card and Nikon 'Guide to Digital SLR Photography' Book, *PLUS* Nikkor 55-200mm VR Zoom Lens Bundle

4.     ProForm 790E Elliptical  with a set of  Dumbbells 2lbs-5lbs (working out!!! )
 ProForm 600 ZNE Elliptical

5. Sony Bravia 32″ Class LCD 720p 60Hz HDTV, KDL-32BX300 (for my bedroom)

I love that question… I can only imagine what other questions are in store for me…no pun intended.

Support System: Living Life

I have to say, Life is wonderful. From everything I have been through I’ve always had support:

Lets make a list real quick of my personal struggles:

Age 11: Broken knee
  Age 11& 12 : Dislocated Hip-surgery
Arthritis starts
Age 14: Fractured elbow
Age 17: Dislocated Foot
Age 18&21: Mest up knee again (Volleyball)
Age 24: Skin cancer
Age 24: Herniated spine disc
Age 27: Lumbar Spine Fusion…
Finally better… No pain!
Age 28: Car accident 6 months later!!!
Age 28: Possible future cancer? A scare!
Current Recouping

Did I forget anything.. crazy huh? Sounds unbelievable…but trust… it all in my records

I have to say. I have been able to overcome all this with support! If it were not for the awesome support and love that I have I would not know where I would be.

It is very important that you find awesome support.
 What to look for:

  • People with WILL, FAITH, and a SMILE!
  • People that will want you to rise from the depths of whatever you are in.
  • Who will lend a hand when your too prideful to ask for it.
  • Who will tell you the truth
  • Who honor your choice and remind you of the consequences
  • Who don’t push you down when you need to be uplifted
  • Who can be there, even with a simple text
  • Who can make you LAUGH!
  • Who will be a shoulder to cry on.
  • Who understands that they are not you.. and they can try to fit into your shoes…

All of this does NOT have to come from one person. Moreover, it can be different people. A group of friends who really care about you. And want to understand the chaos you try to avoid. This is not only for people who have gone through chronic pain. This is also for anyone who has gone through Life.

Living life to its fullest in any capacity has its need of comrades. Not everyone will understand the relationships with another because each relationship is individual and give your something different from the next one. This is OK. Just make sure you are well balanced. Are receiving the support you need. Also giving back. Because just receiving is one things…and it get boring to both parties. You have to Give.

So next time you are going through something, have a friend to speak to. Count on someone. And learn to be there for someone too.

I wish you all the best! All the Awesome support in the world! Because Life is worth living with everyone you want around you.

Smile (if you want)

I’m happy Because I choose to be,
Jes Sofia Valle 😀

Have FEAR of things that are seen as a positive for you?

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing that you will make one.” Elbert Hubbard

Have you ever felt afraid to do or jump into making something happen that is a positive?

I will be honest with you. I HAVE! I use to have a huge fear of writing… yeah. This is very TRUE.
No matter how much I wanted to express myself with writing, I was afraid of it. Interesting right? Look at me know,  I cannot stop. 🙂

Well, There are reasons as to why one doesn’t do things, the biggest one being Fear.

Top possible reasons people fear:

  1. Afraid of failure
  2. The unknown
  3. Looking for an excuse
  4. Childhood experiences (Vague… will not speak of these an example)

Top possible reasons why you are suggested to overcome your fears:

  1. You will be able to enjoy what you fear with out having to add worry
  2. There is always something else on the other side
  3. You will be able to feel empowered that you conquered your fear
  4. You will not have to avoid things because of your fear
  5. You might just be missing out on something great
  6. You may be great at doing what you wee afraid of all these years
  7. You will feel comfortable not having to over think everything around your fear.

So How have you over come a fear that you know can be a positive experience for you?

Depending on it’s depth, you can:

  1. Accept that you have a fear, name it and make it known that you will allow a positive in your life.
  2. Communicate it to someone about your fear (Us therapist are really good at helping other on this one and we will go at your pace at times).
  3. Have someone you trust help listen to you and your fears.
  4. Have a support team. This means have people that will uplift you through your hardships and fears. Have people that will encourage you, understand you, at times push and guide you through it. Support is important.
  5. Keep a daily journal of how you are coming closer to your goal to conquer this fear.
  6. Keep at it! Don’t give up! It may be hard at time and you don’t want to do it, but KNOW that whatever you place your mind to, you can do.
  7. Celebrate your freedom and your new success.

Note: This was intended for you to overcome fears that are to be positive in your life.
Like: Opening a business, writing, being assertive, expressing your thoughts in a good manner.
All other fear, I suggest you work with a professional as they will provide tools for you to use through out your journey.

If everything was easy, everyone would be doing everything.

In the Spirit of being a Starving Foodie

In the Spirit of being a Starving foodie, I went along with my recurrent diet. !@#$%^%$#@#$%^& 🙂

As you read before. I’m on a medical Diet. I get the joy to eat (drink) 2-3 protine shakes and one meal with consist of 6oz meat(protine) veggies and no bread. Me being a Latina… and no sweet bread…………. well lets just say, I’m doing it because I’d like to live.

So I went to Joom Bangkok Cafe off Fairfax and Beverly. I ordered Pad-see-u with out the Pad-See-U… which is Chicken and Brocoli. This being one of my favorite meals, I make it work for me. This is not a High Price, I will see super stars place… But It is a VERY beautiful place. Good for a Night out with a friend.

So tonight I will continue with my Protein Shake and Catch up with my Friday writing. I hope you have fun if you go there next time.
