More Than Just My Name

You come and go… at least that is what I know life to be.  Something I was brought into because my parents chose to.
Like with everything in life… everything has an end, and today… as I sat down, spoke to my friend about the life we have lived, and want to have… I said, “I want to make a difference in my lifetime, leave a brand… names engraved in something more than just a grave.” Knowing that I do make a difference in other lives on a daily basis. How does I DARE to say? Because I’m told… I see changes and I go with the flow.
So tonight’s blog… I write to encourage you to make something for yourself with out malice. With out talking about others, hurting other, but helping others. With out the small rumors you tell your friends, but acknowledged and encourage the ones around you. Its hard, don’t I know it! It like telling the hot coco not to have marshmallows. But I encourage you; to live your dreams, make them a reality. Not to hurt others while you climb your latter, or move your mountain. To believe in what you know to be true and allow other that influence you be of positive demeanor, influence and positive lifestyles.
I say this now because someone once told me…. “Give love and love will be given back to you…” In the words of a great man who made super bowl 27 one of the many best things I’ve ever participated in. “give love and love will be given to you…stay strong your hip will heal soon.” MJ 1993
 I’m in 2.32…

Thank you!  Today I’m thankful for all the Men and Woman who kept me, us, safe. For the people who have fought the people who want to harm us in our America. I’m a proud bi-cultural lady, Born and raised in America and every day I am here I reminded myself of all the great things I can do to help other because others are taking care of me.

I hope you take time to tell your loved ones and loved ones that severed how much they mean to you and protect you and how much you love them. They may not always be there…but they are over there protecting you.  <3

A Commitment to Those Who Serve Every Day

A Commitment to Those Who Serve Everyday

November 10, 2011

In observance of Veterans Day, USCIS held naturalization ceremonies around the country and even aboard an aircraft carrier for members of our Armed Forces. Because veterans play such an important role in our Department’s mission, Secretary Napolitano set a goal to employ 50,000 veterans at DHS by the end of 2012. We are proud that today to have reached that goal, more than a year ahead of schedule. Read more about these and other efforts to honor our Veterans and Military, click here.

Communities Coming Together: Immigration and the Economy

“On Monday November 7, Alejandro Mayorkas, Director of the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services traveled to Nashville, TN to discuss the current state of our immigration system and its impact on the economy.  Hosted by the Partnership for a New American Economy and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, the roundtable included business leaders and stakeholders from Gaylord Entertainment, Hospital Corporation of America, Business Forward, and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce.

The Partnership for a New American Economy is a group spearheaded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and includes mayors and business leaders who support immigration reform, including Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. This fruitful discussion emphasized the important role immigration plays in strengthening our American economy and showcased the urgency being expressed by businesses leaders for immigration reform.

In an op-ed by Director Mayorkas in The Tennessean he states, “We must continue to attract and retain enterprising individuals who can invest their talents, skills and ideas to grow our economy and create American jobs.”

Business leaders agreed that current immigration laws, particularly those that prevent companies from hiring foreign workers and restrict international students from staying in the US after college graduation, need to be improved to reflect our country’s current economic needs for high skilled labor.

Director Mayorkas’ streamlining of the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program was also discussed and praised by the business community. The EB-5 program allows foreign investors and their families to gain a permanent resident visa if they can create or preserve at least 10 full time U.S. jobs through a substantial investment. Though many of the participants viewed the current efforts by the Obama Administration and USCIS to be positive steps forward, they acknowledged the need for Congress to act in reforming our immigration system as a whole.

This roundtable event  was successful in prompting a positive conversation about the changes needed to be made to our current immigration laws in order for our country to have a 21st century immigration system that will not only benefit American businesses but the American economy overall.

The #cause2012 conference in Santa Maria, CA on October 29, 2011. As you have read in my prior post this  conference was held at Allan Hancock College campus in Santa Maria. The #cause2012 an opportunity for social media and community organizing worlds to network, and learn from one another.  This conference was a lecture and workshop oriented (I conducted the keeping a healthy balance with Social Media, Social Justice and Personal Life).

Thoughts of the conference:

I was thinking through out the conference, social justice… and someone in the session said it “you are playing angry birds when there is a revolution going on.” And I began to think of all the small revolutions that everyone works through on a daily basis… the getting out of bed when its cold, or the poor kids that have no food, the children who stay at home with out anyone to care for them.. i can go on. I was inspired even more, granted I’m working on building a foundation for children who have chronic pain… but i was inspired to take it higher… to make the county, city, state, life and world wide know that there is hope for just about anything. Yes, I am an out of the box thinker, a dreamer and most of all a doer. By going to this conference I found an even more profound appreciation for civil servants, the social workers who are trying to find their balance, the community activist who is baring their feet, their souls to help the people who have ongoing struggles, the social media people who weary their eyes making it possible for you to read this…

Participation:

Participating in this event was amazing. As I mentioned the workshop was based on keeping a healthy balance with Social Media, Social Justice and Personal Life. As I was educating. I had so many ideas funnel through my mind on what other ways  can help people and family through the education of finding your own balance… Because although many people say there isn’t a balance, I will say there is such a thing as balance… the word exist doesn’t it?  However, It may not be the same thing for everyone… everyone find their balance in their own ways. Finding a healthy balance only means being well rounded…and I don’t mean your hips…

So towards the end of the conference I found that everyone took with them a different aspect of what they chose to view. Some people where excited about their new founded knowledge… I found that I was excited to see a big group of people learning Twitter, Facebook and social media in general to help each other and others they have yet to meet.  Overall, the conference in my point of view was a success.

And to the team that created this even! Big ups! Giovanni! Jose! Cristina! Hilda! Jessie!and Jes… Awesome Job!

I hope you come to the next one…
