Getting Ready for your in.Sanity Holiday!

Holidays… Need I say more?

It is suppose to be a time for happiness, cheerful moments, and creating memories. However, not all families go through these “happy times.” For some its dreadful moments, avoidance of childhood memories, and ongoing regrets. And what I can tell you is this, It is what you make of it. Also, the following…

  • You can kick and scream, through a tantrum and act like you are  five or six all over again, but what will that get you? Maybe being ignored, or hollered at and being told you are acting like a five or six year old.
  • You can scream, argue and throw things around. But that will only get you a broken vase/plates/brown windows. You can also hurt others including yourself.
  • You can make horrible food. But you have to sit down and eat it too…
  • You could even avoid the holidays in general, but you will miss out on what you can change and make better.

Like I said, Not everyone likes the holidays. Moreover, sometimes as an adult they may seem like a waste of time when you are busy making YOU happen.

BUT! Its not an everyday thing. They are the holidays. Which means, a vacation, from your everyday life to make more memories with the ones you love or in some cases choose to deal with.

Here are some tips to get through this Holiday season:

  • Communication
  • http://hernandi89.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/mouse.gif
    • Use the Letter “I” (I think, I feel) you speak for you…  You are the only one that knows your thinking. I’m pretty sure you cannot read someones mind. If you can good luck!
    • With out communication, you cannot express your self in a DECENT manner.
    • People prefer to hear communication in a calm voice more than violent acts or screaming.
    • Communication allows for you to release these “ghost” that have haunting you from a young age.
  •  Self- Control
    • Making sure you are aware of your body…i.e. drinking. You can always communicate better when you have control of what you want to say.
    • Only you have self control of you, no one else. There isn’t someone pulling your strings unless you let them.
  •  Awareness
    • Being aware of what other are saying, hearing them and reciprocate without being violent.
    • Know that everyone is not in the same situation that you are in.
    • Follow up with your family; of the family circumstances.
    • Tell your family what is going on with you. I’m very sure they would like to know. Some families tend to be resentful of the wonderful things you are doing, include them into your life.
    • Be there.
  •  Boundaries
    • Learn people’s boundaries.
    • Inform your family members what your boundary is and WHY you choose to have that specific boundary.
    • Give them time to adjust and understand your choices.
    • Don’t feel like you cannot say no, even if it gets someone mad. You need to take care of you… communicate about it. You can also say yes, you don’t always have to say no. You get where I’m going with this?
  •  Goals
    • http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091214230146/christmasspecials/images/thumb/6/6d/GarfieldHugOdie.jpg/300px-GarfieldHugOdie.jpg

    • Set a goal for yourself in this holiday season: To be happy.
    • Things happen and people come and go in your life, but what you remember best of them is what counts…because you can choose to be miserable or you can choose to be happy. It is your choice.

 Smile (If you want).

Happy Holidays!

Empowerment and Style: LatinaStyle Business Series Re-Cap

Wonder why women are admired?

I asked myself this question as I volunteered at the Latina Style Business Conference at The Hyatt Century City Plaza this past Thursday.

I observed women of all sorts of  life’s paths: field, characters, attitudes, hopes, dreams, behaviors, thoughts and Styles. What I found out is that we are all different and all the same in our difference. What do I mean? We are women who want more from life, some, want more for self. Some, want more for others…and yes,  some wanting more for both Us and others. Any aspect isn’t bad.. it just is what it is.

Along with this simple observation. I also noticed two things, POWER and STYLE. Women getting together and making connections. You see, the power of a woman is more than her beauty. It is her emotions, thought and brain amongst many many other features. She is the entrepreneur, the singer, the artist, the mother, the fashionista, the SEO, The foodie, the CEO, the President, the chef, the cook, the homemaker, the political advocate… I can keep going! But I will not.

During the event:

We were greeted by our Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. He spoke about greatness, being humble, and not forgetting where we come from…

We leaned how Verizon allows you to rub your  business from the palm of your hand.   The Speaker was Awesome and Lively!
Personally I love Verizon! Did you know you can now take a pic of people’s business cards and they will be uploaded to your phone?

And Our Course of course! Stuffed Olive chicken. Carrots and Broccoli. Rice and A tomato. (It was a bit overdone). 😀

                  Host of Macy’s Runway… from

               Project Runway’s  Nick Verreos

I enjoyed the fashion and the Normal sized woman portrayed on the runway. Its a first that I’ve seen on a “normal” runway. Along with Radio Celebrities Yesi Ortiz (POWER 106) and Roxy (Latino 96.3)

Macy’s gave us Fashion for the on the Go, stay at home, traveling businesswomen. Also, gifting us with a gift certificate at dinner.

You see… When a group of women come together… Anything is possible. When ONE puts something to mind, anything is possible. This is what I gravitated from this conference along with the information taught, which was easy to understand. Moreover, what I was reminded was what I’ve love to continue learning …

That “Love [of what we do] is that condition in the human spirit so profound that it allows [us] to survive, and better than that, to thrive with passion, compassion, and style.” Maya Angelou

I hope you attend next years business conference.

Oh and did I mention I won a United States Postage in a raffle? It was fun! I highly enjoyed myself. Made awesome connections with women and some men that like to empower women.

Continue to do greatness in this world you human you.

Smile (If you want),

Jes Sofia Valle

P.S. Thank you Tanya and Roberto for making this happen!

Latinas with a Mission: com·rade·ry in Los Angeles Latina Bloggers

photo

a spirit of friendly good-fellowship

Strive to have awesome friendships, relationships through awesome people that help and motivate you on the ongoing paths life gives you. #JSV

Sometimes you may think that you will not ever get this kinds of support. Well, I’m here to tell you that It’s all about what you allow in your life. How your move fwd with people and allow their good nature to affect your life. So next time you are presented with an opportunity to know someone, enjoy what they have to give, their good nature, and learn to distinguish who is wanting the best for you.

Every heard the word “comadre?”  For Latinas, This means positive fellowship. So I will let you into my new little big world… of Blogger Comrades. As you know by now,  I write because I can and I love it.  As an added plus I have met some great women. You will probably see me tweet crazy random things to these awesome women. I call them my online comrades. We meet in real life at events where we go to and then later blog about.

I started blogging and then tweeting with a vision to promote my new growing foundation. Turning Leaves foundation. Of which I mention every time I talk.  With this passion of helping, I found that I have met super awesome and stylish women, women with dreams, voice and power.  Men too.

I made new friendships and my ideas have not stopped overflowing. As you may know, I’m the girl that loves to help people grow, to give them hope and ideas. So when I had the opportunity to help out and plan the Los Angeles Latina Bloggers, I was excited. Help should be my middle name, but its Sofia and I love it too.

Here is a recap of The Los Angles Latina blogger Brunch:

photoWe (Monique and Yours truly)  sat at Starbucks not to long ago and wondered how this may come about.  Wrote up beginning documents and Monique worked hard…. super hard to obtain sponsorship. I became the support system because Something I’ve learned is when someone is on the Go, you don’t stop them, get in their way, you support them. I do have to say Going to the flower mart with Monique at 5:30am was rather interesting. More so making the flowers… I loved them. The kitchen cleaning up after I did not. haha.

photoDiscovering Mas the Brunch: I was excited. I was able to meet a lot of women who where from various paths of life. Mothers, sisters, friends, models, professional working women.  We were educated about creating our media kits by Jennifer Vides: “How to market and Brand yourself as a blogger” and Wally Sabrina: “Optimizing Your Social Media Presence w/ creative and compelling Content.”  The material provided was helpful,

photoWe had time to meet new Comrades, chat it up, as we women do and Get to know awesomeness in all. I wish I had more time to sit with every single one of them and get to know them. For now, I am still reading blogs and laughing, crying and getting to know them through what I call, My blog time.

Here are some pictures from the event: I hope you enjoy re-living camaraderie of Latina bloggers.

Rockin’ Baja Huntington Beach

Rockin’ Baja Huntington Beach is a good meeting up with friends, diner and date place (they have dinner and a movie day).  They have awesome prices and a comfortable atmosphere. My favorite part, other than the tacos, was that they help out their community. A place that gives to charities and helps the community. Any place that helps other is a place I like to go to.   If you mention Sofia Valle’s Blog They will give you free dessert with food purchase.  Keep reading!

I was driven in a very roomy mini cooper. The first time I had ever been in one. I have to say after I allowed myself. I have to say it is a very roomy car.  And after being  comforted by informative talk, we arrived!

Rockin’ Baja Huntington Beach: Located at 7811 Edinger Ave # 110
Huntington Beach, CA 92647-7634
(714) 892-3852
We were greeted with an awesome beginners:

Chips and Guacamole: I have to say, the flavor of this Guacamole is one of the best I have tasted in a long time. Its texture needs a little more chunk, but the flavor overall I say Super.  By the time I remembered to take a picture of it, it was gone. That tell you a lot I hope.
Fried Calamari: (pic above) They were very tasty. Not Too crunchy where you cannot taste what inside. It was well done. The sauce was simple. Nothing to strong or extra. Enough to allow the flavor of the calamari to come through with out taking away too much. A basic, simple and delicious treat to begin with.

The first entry: Tequila Lime Shrimp – Rockin’ House Specialty! 10.99
Sautéed in butter, olive oil, fresh garlic, cilantro, red pepper, lime juice and tequila,
served with grilled garlic bread for sopping up the juice.  This was a very tasty, and dare I say saucy dish. The flavor of tequila, lemon and Garlic were balanced.  Dipping the Garlic Bread in the sauce was my favorite.  The shrimp were a little over done, but over all a good plate.

Gnarly Nachos 9.99
Crisp corn tortilla chips layered with Mexi-cheese and our jalapeño-spiked cheese
sauce, ranchero beans, jalapeños and tomatoes, topped with guacamole, sour cream
and pico de gallo… I liked them. It feeds a small group. It wasn’t over seasoned like a lot of nachos usually are. Again, well balanced in flavor.

The All fajitas include ranchero beans, Mexican rice, flour tortillas,

honey chili butter, and chips & salsa.
Add Bottomless Caesar Salad Bowl • 2.99 (serves 1-2) • 4.99 (serves 3-4)
Accompanied with fresh pico de gallo, house-made guacamole and sour cream
Grilled Chicken 14.99 • Carne Asada Steak 15.99
Jumbo Seasoned Shrimp 14.99 • Veggie & Grilled Corn 12.99
Carne Asada Steak & Chicken Combination 15.99
Fajitas de Rockin’ Baja® – All of Our Very Best! 17.99

I liked these. Not in love. But they were OK. The chicken needed more flavor before being blended with the veggies.

Shrimp Lover’s Bucket 17.99 A dozen large shrimp for the really hearty appetite: The seasons on the shrimp where good!
I did expect a lot more for being a bucket.

These Burritos where my favorite part of the meal. They were almost mini burritos. I had the lobster shrimp one and I highly enjoyed it.

Tacos Chingones – Really Good Tacos! 10.99
Carne asada with cheese, beans, avocado and pickled onions wrapped in flour tortillas. I would go back for these anytime!

Of course! Dessert! What is a meal with out Dessert?

Fried Ice Cream! 4.99
Rich creamy vanilla ice cream flash fried in a crunchy crust
Garnished with caramel sauce, crispy sweet tortilla chips and fresh whipped cream

Rocky’s Chocolate Lava Cake 5.99
Warm chocolate cake with a molten chocolate center, caramel and chocolate sauces and fresh whipped
cream. Try this with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream!!!

This is my dessert plate. My favorite I would say is the Apple Burrito. Its An apple pie Puerto style. What more can I ask for? It was very yumm-e. 🙂

Rockin’ Baja Huntington Beach is a good meeting up with friends, diner and date place (they have dinner and a movie day). Their prices reasonable. My favorite part was that they help out their community. A place that give to charities and helps. Any place that helps other is a place I like to go to.  If you mention Sofia Valle’s Blog They will give you free dessert with food purchase.
